Safe Masonry

Tallahassee Community College (TCC) and its partner, the Florida Masonry Apprenticeship & Educational Foundation (FMAEF), were awarded a $188,000 United States Department of Labor (USDOL), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Susan Harwood Grant in 2007.

The purpose of the grant was to provide free Safety training with an emphasis on falls and back injuries in North Florida to the masonry industry serving 400 employees and 75 employers (supervisors). The project ended on September 31, 2009 and actually trained 449 employees (exceeded goal by 12%) and 137 employers (exceeded goal by 82%). The grant covered 34 counties (see counties noted on map below).
